FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Whitewater rafting and inflatable kayaking are exciting sports and they are not something most people do every day. We understand you may have questions and fears about participating in these activities. No question to us is a stupid one. The following is just a sampling of questions that we have encountered in the past. If you have any further questions that we may not have covered please don't hesitate to contact us.

Do I need to know how to swim?

Not all of our guest know how to swim. That is why we outfit you with a Coast Guard approved PFD-Personal Floatation Device. We offer more mellow trips that will splash you and the likehood of going out of the raft is minimal. All rafters are required to wear a life jacket while in the raft or near the river.

What will the weather be like?

The weather in Southern Oregon and Northern California is typically sunny, dry, and hot (in July and August temperatures can be well over 100 degrees), perfect for a river trip. Spring and early June can be variable. Temperatures may be hot and sunny early in the day and plummet mid-day due to a storm rolling through. Pay attention to the weather before you come on your trip. You may get current Ashland area weather information from the Weather Channel

What trip do I have time for?

If you have other activities planned on your trip to Ashland you may want to think about how much you can really cram into one day. Travel time to the river on our half day trips are usually a half hour to 45 minutes to and from the river. Our Upper Klamath Full Day trips the drive time to the river is an hour and fifteen minutes and about an hour back to Ashland. Other trips to our Lower Klamath overnight trips, Cal Salmon overnighters, and Scott River day trips are in the 2 hour range from Ashland. Choose a trip that will best fit in your time schedule. Our morning half day trips and the Upper Klamath full day rafting trip are the best bet for those who are going to a Shakespeare play in the evening and want to have time to have a shower and a leisurely dinner.

I'm not in that good of shape, can I still go rafting?

Absolutely! For many of our trips optimal physical fitness is not necessary although strenuous paddling may be required for some. Any of our trips that are in the Class 5 rating (Cal Salmon and Scott) physical fitness is mandatory and a swim test will be performed. Sorry, no exceptions.

I have a few young kids- what rafting trip can they go on?

A few of our river trips require a minimum age for children to be able to participate on the trip. We have great trips that are suitable for young kids as well as rafting trips for older kids. Age limits are set for the safety of our younger guests.

Is the water cold?

The water temperatures in Southern Oregon and Northern California range from the mid 50's to the low 70's. The Rogue River and the Klamath River are the perfect summertime temperature to cool off on a hot summer's day. Our springtime rivers (Cal-Salmon & Scott) are snowmelt rivers and usually run in the low 50's. We will provide wetsuits on these trips.

Can I wear flip flops?

We do not allow flip flops on any of our river trips. Flip flops can come off your feet if you take a swim either voluntarily or involuntarily. You need to wear shoes that will stay on your feet, either river sandals or old tennis shoes. We also provide booties.

How do I get to the river?

We will pick you up at either your hotel or bed and breakfast in Ashland or if you are staying at a local residence you can meet us at our River Center in Ashland. You will ride to the river in our clean air-conditioned vehicles.

Please contact us with any other questions you may have. We look forward to taking you on a river adventure of a lifetime!
