Recreational Kayaking Skills

Have you always wanted to learn to kayak so you can paddle on calm rivers and scenic mountain lakes? Has getting into kayaking seemed intimidating and too hard to do? Not anymore! Recreational Kayaking Basics is a great way to begin kayaking, gaining confidence, and is all about fun!

A Day on the Lake

At Kokopelli Kayak School, we know that not everyone is into the “thrill of whitewater.” Recreational Kayaking Basics is an introduction to kayaking in a calm water environment.

We start the day off by heading to Emigrant Lake, just a 5 minute drive from our River Center in Ashland, OR. We begin by going over safety instruction, how to get in your kayak correctly, and then we are off paddling! Kokopelli River Center's half day Recreational Kayaking Basics class teaches you all you need to know about kayak touring such as proper stroke technique, proper exit and entry of the kayak, outfitting your kayak, safety information and more. Both recreational kayaks and sea kayaks are available for use if you’re not sure what kind of kayak you want to be in. No previous kayaking experience required.
