Do you want to learn how you can become "one" with the river? If your answer is "yes"! We have the answer for you. Our Whitewater Kayaking Immersion course is for those who really want to learn to whitewater kayak and can commit the time it takes to learn the thrill of whitewater kayaking. Our philosophy on teaching is one that is tried and true: the more days spent consecutively in a whitewater kayak, the easier it is!
4 DAY WHITEWATER KAYAK IMMERSION CLASSESWhitewater Kayaking Immersion is the American Canoe Association’s entire beginner whitewater kayak course. Immerse yourself in four days of whitewater kayaking instruction beginning at Emigrant Lake, just five minutes from Ashland, Oregon followed by three days on the Klamath River in Northern California. Whitewater Kayaking Immersion is equivalent taking the Level I and Level II courses separately. It is our philosophy that the more days you spend consecutively in a kayak, the more comfortable you feel being in a whitewater kayak and the easier it becomes. We begin the first day of instruction in a flat water setting on Emigrant Lake and spend the morning with an introduction to the kayak and its parts, then move on to the “wet exit” (how to exit the kayak successfully when it is upside down), basic paddle stroke techniques, bracing, and steering the kayak. The afternoon will be spent learning the “Eskimo roll” and practicing it with your instructor. The next day on the Klamath River we start with a safety orientation, then we hop on the river and start out on flat, moving water—applying all the whitewater kayaking skills learned on flat wataer. We focus on how to get in and out of eddies successfully, how to ferry the kayak across slow moving water, and how to progress to swifter currents. We’ll also throw in some small rapids and start more difficult whitewater kayaking maneuvers. ![]() Camp out along the Klamath River and learn to kayak in the Whitewater Kayaking Immersion Camp out classes. 5 DAY KAYAKING CAMP OUT: LOWER KLAMATH RIVERIf you love being in the great outdoors and you want to learn to whitewater kayak by day and sleep under the stars at night, our Whitewater Kayak Immersion Camping and Kayaking class offers you the best of both worlds. We will depart for the river from Ashland or we can meet you at the Tree of Heaven Campground for the first day of class. Both courses cover the same whitewater kayaking and rescue skills as in our Ashland based class, but this is taught in a wilderness setting on the Wild and Scenic Klamath River. The first day we will arrive at our base camp and your ACA certified kayak instructor will go through an introduction and an overview of the course. This is the time to mingle and get to know your fellow adventure seekers. Every morning after a hearty breakfast and coffee we'll have a chalk talk where we will review the skills that you learned the day before and go over the new skills that will be covered that day. We serve hearty and healthy meals followed by scrumptious desserts. All food is provided from lunch the first day to lunch the last day. If you need camping equipment sleep in our freshly laundered sleeping bags and on our super comfy Paco Pads after taking a hot riverside shower. You'll feel like you never left home! If you have your own camping equipment you are welcome to bring it. If you are really looking to immerse yourself in learning to whitewater kayak, why not take the time off from your hectic schedule and take a little kayaking vacation? We look forward to you joining us.
