Change of Season Brings New Oppurtunities

Now that summer has come and gone we're looking to continue our love for paddling throughout the fall and winter. We talk to a lot of people who come into our shop in the colder months of the year that are still getting out there on the lakes and the rivers and loving every minute of it.

Paddling on the lake in the fall and winter is great exercise that will keep you in shape for next spring and summer. You will most likely be the only person out there, so enjoy the solitude. There are plenty of chances to see bald eagles and other species of birds and wildlife on local lakes in the fall and winter. There is a great map of Southern Oregon lakes that shows all the lakes in the area with great descriptions of each one.

Whitewater kayaking is just getting started in the winter when the rains come. Typically starting in November through April the rivers rise and whitewater kayakers throw on their drysuits and take advantage of the best water of the year. If you can handle the cold. Many whitewater kayakers will head to the Smith River, the Applegate River, and for a multi-day kayaking and rafting trip on the Illinois River. The rivers are definitely colder in the winter, but with proper safety knowledge and equipment and advanced paddling skills running rivers can be enjoyable year round.
